Supergirl’s birthday tribute: “she genuinely likes having superpowers”
Today is the recognized birthday of Supergirl and to celebrate I asked three of the character’s most devoted fans to talk about why they love her so much. This first post is from Michelle who runs the site Supergirl: Maid of Might. Her thoughts follow.
I really wanted to be Supergirl growing up. I imprinted hard on the Superman and Supergirl movieverse, and they set the standard for what I love about superheroes. It’s not hard to figure out why Supergirl is my favourite superhero. Let’s see: she’s impervious to physical harm, physically strong and fast as well as quick-thinking, her super-senses let her know all sorts of things she’s not supposed to, and she wears a kickass costume that’s got built-in brand power. Her parents are conveniently absent in many versions, giving her an envious freedom of movement for a young woman.
