Hey Ms. Garbowska! I had a quick question. I saw the announcement that you will be at Phoenix Comic-Con in june and wanted to ask how much you charge for a Commission. (I didn't find a list on your page. I had gotten one from you last year at the Free Comic Book day and I have been hoping you'd come back around to AZ. Thank you in advance!
Hi there! Thank you so much for your interest in my commissions. :) I am very excited to be going back to Phoenix this year. For all the commission info please email me at agnesgarbowska (at) gmail (dot) com. Thank you!! :D
Hi, I love your work, especially your art history references on your pony covers. I wish I was more knowledgeable about art because I'd really love to get all the little references you put in. I'm having some difficulty with your Spike and Luna covers. While I understand the David reference in your Spike cover and the Kahlo reference in your Luna cover, the other two references confuse me. Do they too reference specific works of art? I really would like to know as I love to expand my knowledge.
I am so sorry if this post has been here for a while! I am so happy that you are interested in learning more about art history!!! :D I am even more happy that My Little Pony comic covers I worked on helped with this, hehe.
The MLP Luna micro cover is a combination of two artists. Gustav Klimt and Frida Kahlo (You got this one). Klimt’s work is very beautiful and really inspires me. I also used his work as the inspiration for the MLP Friends Forever #1 variant. I recommend looking him up!
For the MLP Spike micro series cover I used two references as well, a painting by, Jacques Louis David (You got this as well, but I thought I would share for others!) and a statue by Nicolas Coustou of Julius Caesar.
Hope this information helps! I am very excited knowing that you will be expanding your art knowledge. :)
sorry i didnt phrase it well, i mean, isnt it kind of shitty to expect donations for a thing youre already posting? its not like your running a kickstarter for books, your just uploading a webcomic where everyone can read it anyway, why are you trying to bleed all the money out of your fans? its just gonna drive them away cause they either dont wanna pay or are too broke.j
you have to be confused Anon, like, that’s not at all what I’m, doing.
A) I do not expect donations. I would like to get the word out so whomever feels so inclined to help support my art can do so.
B) there will almost definitely eventually be a kickstarter for books but i gotta draw the comic first!!
C) why would anyone support an artist they don’t know they like? Putting up my comic online is helping me create a fanbase to follow my work so I may eventually get picked up by a publisher! (or self publish, wherever the wind blows me!)
D)”bleed money” ah ah aha ahahha ah ah aha no
E) “drive them away”? from what? their incredible non-obligation to donate to my fund? It’s not a pay site mate, it’s a free webcomic I ALREADY update twice a week. I don’t care if people who read my comic are broke. A reblog to spread the word is totally free and helps me out incredibly!
At my local grocery store, bread is about $4.50 for a decent size italian loaf. If I make $7.25 and hour, that means I’d have to work 37 and a half minutes for a Loaf of bread.
but hey, that’s not so bad right? Work two hours and you’ll have a sandwich, eh?
Oh hey, turns out I also need toilet paper, rice, chicken, some veggies, a can of soup, and some cereal. (to name a few basic groceries one might need on a budget) we’ll round those things down to $25 just to make the math easier.
at $7.25 an hour I’ll have to work about 3 and a half hours for basic groceries.
That doesn’t include bills or gas or all the other groceries I need, That’s ONE quick trip to the store and I already have to work half a day just for that.
You don’t understand Anon, my pages could take HOURS if not DAYS. Between the sketching, inking, colouring, lettering, and finishing it’s taken at least a full two day’s work if not longer for each page.
I have a job that pays me beans, I cannot afford to post more pages a week without compensation. I literally cannot afford to do that. Not to mention the idea that art is only worth minimum wage cheapens the amount of work and effort that goes into producing it. I should be making WELL ABOVE minimum wage for my art via page count and commissions but it’s this damn “deviant art” mindset that makes people feel like they’re being swindled for paying a livable wage to artists. It’s rude and childish and I ask that you please stop considering artists as less worthy of affording a normal life.
You can either pay me what I ask for what you want or stop complaining about what I already give you for free.
